The Prosthodontist will carry out a variety of specialized dental procedures focusing on restoration through repair and replacement of teeth with removable, fixed, or implant prosthetics. The Prosthodontist will be a key member of the department of dentistry at Denver Health (DH), the General Practice in Dentistry Residency (GPR), and Oral Maxillo-Facial Surgery Residency (OMFS) and will have shared accountability for achieving the organization's mission, vision, strategy, and objectives. The Prosthodontist, under general supervision, is charged with managing direct patient care, the GPR Prosthodontic Rotation, direct oversight of GPR resident clinical patient care, and for prosthodontic education.The Prosthodontist routinely collaborates with the dental team, GPR, OMFS faculty, attendings, and Residents to create and foster highly integrated multi-specialty patient care. The Prosthodontist emphasizes the delivery of safe, quality, affordable, and compliant dental care to all patients across the care continuum, including those with special health care needs. The Prosthodontist will provide direct prosthodontic specialty care and serve as a consultant to other providers at DH to aid in their management of patients with specialty prosthodontic needs. The Prosthodontist is well versed in current prosthodontic research and stays up to date with the latest technology and equipment.
Essential Functions:
Dental ServicesMay complete the following types of treatment directly for patients: fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthodontics, TMD management, and implants/implant restorative. Collaborates and consults with other dental team members within the proper scope of care. Writes prescriptions for medications and authorizes the manufacture of dental prosthetics by dental laboratories. Recommends prosthodontic armamentarium and equipment needs to meet standard of care. Collaborates with Dental Practice Manager (DPM) and Patient Access Supervisor (PAS) to ensure compliance with coding and billing requirements. Ensures patient confidentiality. Maintains accurate patient records and completes charts promptly. (40%)
Resident and Staff Clinical SupervisionDirectly supervises residents? patient care inclusive of guiding residents in their presentation of medical/dental history, radiographic/clinical findings, and proposed treatment prior to patient care, clinical support during procedures, and provides feedback and evaluation of resident performance. Assures completion of all documentation in a timely manner. Collaborates on treatment planning options for the patient, understanding the limitations for residents that fall within the scope of a general dentistry. Ensures GPR residents meet performance expectations and customer service standards. (40%)
Prosthodontic Rotation Management, Education, and DevelopmentManages and develops a sustainable Prosthodontic curriculum for the GPR. Devises resident rotations with other leadership. Educates and exposes residents to prosthodontic literature and supports evidence-based dentistry via literature reviews. Ensures curriculum and experiences are compliant with CODA. Completes ongoing evaluation of rotation goals, objectives, and outcomes assessment. Provides prosthodontic lectures and learning. (15%)
Consultations with Satellite Clinic DentistsConsults with DH and affiliate Dentists to aid in their management and care of patients with advanced prosthodontic needs. Provides direction to dental staff. Refers patients for appropriate health care procedures with dental and medical health professionals. Communicates effectively and ensures loop closure with referrals. (5%)
Education:
Doctorate Degree in dentistry from an accredited institution Required
Work Experience:
Completion of Prosthodontic Residency Required
Licenses:
DDS/DMD-Dentist - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, standard practices, and techniques of dentistry sufficient to be able to provide dental care and information regarding preventative dentistry and oral hygiene.
Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, objectives, safety, and infection control standards sufficient to be able to maintain the expected level of efficiency.
Skill in exercising initiative, judgement, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives.
Skill in diagnosing dental problems and developing treatment plans.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, organizations and the public.
Skill in maintaining and organizing departmental records, records, reports and files.
Skill in adapting new information relative to the work assignment through educational seminars, meetings, and staff meetings.
